Eriol is the reincarnation of Clow Reed. He transfers into Sakura's fifth grade class. He comes from England, where he knew Mizuki Kaho. He created Spinel Sun and Ruby Moon to be his guardians in his new life. He, as Clow Reed, arranged for Sakura to be his successor before he died. He also blocked Yue and Cereberus's memories to prevent them from revealing his identity to Sakura too soon.
Eriol comes to Japan to train his successor. He creates situations in which Sakura has to change the cards from Clow Cards to Sakura Cards. He always stops if it looks like someone will get hurt. His plans did not account for Yukito falling in love with Touya or for Sakura to fall in love with Shaoran, though. He expected Yukito and Sakura to fall in love like Clow and Yue did.
