I'm currently working on my doctoral degree in Cultural Anthropology. My research interests include languages, religion, traditional healing, gender studies and popular culture. I like Japanese anime and manga quite a bit, though my interest has moved from simple entertainment to the study of anime/manga fandom. I regularly attend and staff the Anime North convention in Toronto and UBCon in Buffalo and occasionally make appearances at Otakon in Baltimore.

When not researching or working on papers, I like to read fantasy and mystery novels, write short and not so short stories, cross-stitch, watch tv, translate manga, learn languages, design websites, and paint. Currently the languages that I've learned include Spanish, French, Japanese, Japanese sign language, Arabic and Tibetan.
